Why I Tried Truly Free?
As someone who prioritizes health—and who has lost many loved ones to cancer—I’ve been on a mission to reduce the number of carcinogens and artificial ingredients in my life. That includes what I eat, drink, and even what I clean with. A good friend of mine, Joey Jurgovan (@joeysorts), really helped open my eyes to this world of non-toxic living, and I’ve started paying attention to the products he uses. One of the brands he swears by is Truly Free Home. After doing some research and seeing how passionate he was about it, I decided it was time to try it for myself. Here’s my honest review of Truly Free’s home products.
What Is Truly Free?
Before diving into the products, here’s a quick look at the company itself. Truly Free was born out of necessity—usually my favorite type of brand to support. Founder Stephen Ezell created the company after his newborn son began suffering from severe rashes just three weeks after birth. Despite seeing dermatologists and pediatricians, the only solution offered was a heavy pharmaceutical steroid. Eventually, he discovered the real culprit: the harsh chemicals in everyday laundry detergent. That realization led him to develop a natural alternative—and Truly Free was born. What started as a clean laundry solution has since expanded into an entire line of non-toxic home products. And when you stop to think about it… why do we need so many chemicals just to clean our homes and clothes? It’s a question more and more people are starting to ask.
What I Tested?
I actually own the full line of Truly Free products and have been testing them out one by one. For the sake of this review, I’m going to focus on the ones I use the most in my daily routine:
- Everyday Cleaner
- Laundry Wash
- Laundry Stain Remover
- Bathroom Cleaner
Performance Review (Product-by-Product)
Everyday Cleaner Review
The Everyday Cleaner is the product I use most often. It’s part of my daily routine for cleaning countertops, appliances, and just about everything in between. Like all Truly Free products, it comes as a concentrated packet with an empty reusable bottle—you simply add the packet and fill it with water. I really like this system because it ensures transparency in the formula, reduces plastic waste, and makes storage easier.
Performance-wise, it works just as well as any traditional brand I’ve used—no drop-off compared to Method or Mrs. Meyer’s. Truly Free holds its own, but without all the questionable ingredients. And that’s huge for me. I’m the kind of person who freaks out if someone sprays chemicals near my food or water—especially since my girlfriend likes to start cleaning before I’ve even finished eating. I still don’t love it when anything gets sprayed near my plate, but with Truly Free, I feel way more at ease knowing the formula is non-toxic.
Here’s a visual comparison of how it stacks up against brands like Method, which I’ve used in the past:
Truly Free Laundry Wash Review
Laundry Wash is Truly Free’s original product, so you know they took the time to get it right—and in my opinion, they nailed it. It comes in both a Signature Scent and an Unscented version, and both are completely non-toxic and made with all-natural ingredients.
The truth is, most laundry detergents out there—even the so-called “gentle” ones—contain some pretty harsh chemicals. For example, Tide’s Free & Gentle detergent includes ingredients like MEA-Laureth Sulfate (SLS), Benzisothiazolinone, and Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA).
Not sure what those are or why they might be a problem? Check out the graphic below to see what these ingredients do, why they’re concerning, and how Truly Free stacks up as the cleaner, safer choice.
Truly Free Laundry Stain Remover Review
The Laundry Stain Remover is an absolutely phenomenal product. Just the other day, I spilled pasta sauce on my brand-new white Alo cloth shorts and thought they were ruined. I ran to the laundry room, grabbed the stain remover spray, and gave it just a couple of light squirts—I didn’t even need to use much. I rubbed the fabric together a bit, blotted it with a paper towel, and the stain came right out.
I didn’t even throw them in the wash—just let them air dry and ended up wearing them again later that day. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to take a before-and-after photo, but next time I spill something, I’ll record it or do a test and update this post. This stuff seriously works—I absolutely love it.
Truly Free Bathroom Cleaner Review
Another product we use daily is the bathroom cleaner. I’m someone who likes a clean bathroom but absolutely hates spraying chemicals anywhere near my toothbrush, razor, or other toiletries—so having a non-toxic option has been a huge relief. I’ve used this stuff religiously, and it works just as well as any mainstream cleaner I’ve tried.
It’s all-natural, with no harsh scent—just a mild, clean finish that feels safe to use. No lab-made chemicals, no heavy synthetic fragrances, and nothing that could disrupt your endocrine system or pose long-term health risks.
Even when you look at other “natural” brands, there are still ingredients to be concerned about. Take Mrs. Meyer’s, for example—it’s often seen as a cleaner option, but it still includes synthetic preservatives and fragrance allergens. Check out the graphic below for a side-by-side comparison of the ingredients.
Final Verdict: Is Truly Free Worth It?
In my opinion, Truly Free is absolutely worth the investment. After reviewing tons of so-called “clean” or “natural” cleaners, Truly Free lives up to its name—it’s truly the only brand I’ve found that’s completely free of harmful or potentially harmful ingredients.
While it may be slightly more expensive than some other brands, it can actually be very affordable—especially if you buy in bulk, subscribe, or take advantage of their frequent deals and promotions. We were even able to build a partnership with Truly Free, which means we now have our own exclusive Truly Free discount codes and early access to every new promotion they launch.
